Between a liquid and a gas there is a free surface. Intressting examples in terms of fluid mechanics:

- Waves behind a ship

- Vortex in a Vessel

- Water jet

With cfd it is posible to simulate the free surface with a volume of fluid method. With this method the simulation is transient and the surface tension is considered.

adding adhesive on a book spine

During the manufacturing of paperback books the adhesive is applied on the book spine with two rolls. The contact time between the book spine and the adhesive film on the roll is very short. the adhesive film on the roll should be uniform. This process was simulated with a vof model.
